A Red Sonja Cover Gallery LXIV: 2016 & 2017



	This is the sixty-fourth installment in our Red Sonja themed cover galleries, continuing from the first gallery. Below, we present twenty selected covers by twenty artists from Red Sonja comic books published in 2016 & 2017.



	1 title: Red Sonja (2016) publisher: Dynamite cover artist: Nicola Scott writer: Marguerite Bennett artist: Aneke issue: #1 of 6 cover: G variant release date: January, 2006 commentary: Marguerite Bennett's interpretation of Red Sonja debuted in January, 2016. It ran for six issues. The first issue had numerous variant covers. We have previously featured two covers by Nicola Scott, both were part of Gail Simone's Red Sonja, issues #1 and #2.



	2 title: Red Sonja (2016) publisher: Dynamite cover artist: Ming Doyle writer: Marguerite Bennett artist: Aneke issue: #1 of 6 cover: F variant release date: January, 2006 commentary: In Marguerite Bennett's Red Sonja, Red Sonja donned a chain mail shirt and leather skirt rather than her traditional scale mail bikini. The cover artists adhered to this change of costume. We have previously featured one cover by Ming Doyle, from Gail Simone's Red Sonja, issue #4.



	3 title: Red Sonja (2016) publisher: Dynamite cover artist: Ashley Witter writer: Marguerite Bennett artist: Aneke issue: #1 of 6 cover: AOD Collectables retailer exclusive variant release date: January, 2006 commentary: As far as we know, this is Ashley Witter's first Red Sonja cover. We love Ashley Witter's cover art for Star Wars Doctor Aphra and we created a separate cover gallery for that series. There is another gallery with a Red Sonja Cover by Ashley Witter. 	4 title: Red Sonja (2016) publisher: Dynamite cover artist: Brent Peeples writer: Marguerite Bennett artist: Aneke issue: #1 of 6 cover: Comic Block retailer exclusive variant release date: January, 2006 commentary: There were also numerous retailer exclusive variants to the debut issue of Marguerite Bennet's Red Sonja. This cover by Brent Peeples was a Comic Block exclusive. We have previously featured one cover by Brent Peeples, from issue #1 of Red Sonja / Conan (2015). It was also a Comic Block exclusive.



	5 title: Red Sonja (2016), Vampirella (2016) & Dejah Thoris (2016) publisher: Dynamite cover artist: Dennis Calero writer: Marguerite Bennett (Red Sonja), Kate Leth (Vampirella) & Frank J. Barbiere (Dejah Thoris) artist: Aneke (Red Sonja), Eman Casallos (Vampirella) & Francesco Manna (Dejah Thoris) issue: #1 of 6 release date: January, 2016 cover: Jessie James Comics retailer exclusive variant commentary: There were several connecting covers sets, linking this Red Sonja series to contemporaneous Vampirella & Dejah Thoris series, including covers by Anacleto, Fleecs, Ruffino and Davila. The strange thing about these connecting covers by Dennis Calero is that they appear not to have been intended as a connecting set. It appears that the connecting background was after the fact because the foreground characters are not continuous across the covers. We have previously featured one other cover by Dennis Calero.



	6 title: Red Sonja (2016) publisher: Dynamite cover artist: Marguerite Sauvage writer: Marguerite Bennett artist: Aneke issue: #4 of 6 cover: A cover release date: April, 2006 commentary: After the plethora of covers for issue #1 of Marguerite Bennett's Red Sonja, the rest of the issues had only one cover artist, Marguerite Sauvage. We have previously featured one other cover by Sauvage.



	7 title: Pathfinder Worldscape (2016) publisher: Dynamite cover artist: Jonathan Lau writer: Erik Mona artist: Jonathan Lau issue: #5 of 6 release date: February, 2017 cover: Paizo retailer exclusive variant commentary: The last three issues of the first Pathfinder Worldscape series were published in 2016. We have previously features several covers by Jonathan Lau, including covers to the Worldscape series from issues #1 and #3, Queen Sonja #22 and Red Sonja: Age of Chaos #2.



	8 title: Red Sonja: The Long Walk to Oblivion (2017) publisher: Dynamite cover artist: Moritat writer: Erik Burnham artist: Tom Mandrake issue: one-shot release date: May, 2017 cover: A cover commentary: In 2016, the one-shot, Red Sonja: The Long Walk to Oblivion, was published. There was only one cover, drawn by Moritat. This is our first Red Sonja cover by Moritat to be featured in the galleries on this site.



	9 title: Red Sonja (2016) publisher: Dynamite cover artist: Nick Bradshaw writer: Amy Chu artist: Carlos E. Gomez issue: #01 of 25 cover: A cover release date: January, 2017 commentary: In January, 2017, the first issue of Amy Chu's 25-issue Red Sonja appeared. The A cover was by Nick Bradshaw. The series is referenced to 2016, because issue #0 appeared in December, 2016. Issue #0 also had a cover by Bradshaw. We have previously featured one other cover by Bradshaw, Red Sonja: She-Devil with a Sword (2005) #5.

Gomez issue: #01 of 25 cover: D variant release date: January, 2017 commentary: We have previously featured one other Red Sonja cover by Guiseppe Camuncoli from Red Sonja: She-Devil with a Sword (2005) #6.
