  • commentary: Some artists have a particular face in mind when they draw Red Sonja. One look at a cover by such an artist and you can usually determine who the artist is. This is not the case for Prado. For example, the long, narrow face of Red Sonja in this cover to issue #28 clearly belongs to a different woman than the round face on the cover of issue #27 shown above or that of issue #29 shown below.

  • artist: HOMS
  • issue: #26 of 80
  • release date: October, 2007
  • cover: C variant

  • title: Red Sonja: She-Devil with a Sword (2005)
  • publisher: Dynamite
  • cover artist: Homs
  • writers: Michael Avon Oeming & Brian Reed
  • artist: Homs
  • issue: #28 of 80
  • release date: December, 2007
  • cover: C variant
  • commentary: The other, more common style of cover from Homs is shown here. This is more consistent with the interior artwork drawn by Homs, who penciled issues #19 through #29 and #33 of Red Sonja: She Devil with a Sword (2005). Accompanying Red Sonja in this cover is her nemesis, Kulan Gath, and a white owl, a symbol of her patron goddess, Scáthach.

9

  • title: Savage Red Sonja: Queen of the Frozen Wastes (2006)
  • publisher: Dynamite
  • cover artist: Homs
  • writers: Frank Cho & Doug Murray
  • artist: Homs
  • issue: #2 of 4
  • release date: September, 2006
  • cover: C variant
  • commentary: Homs made covers and interior artwork for all four issues of Savage Red Sonja: Queen of the Frozen Wastes (2006). A couple of these covers include the villainess in the story arc, who torments Red Sonja along all the other hapless souls who have fallen into her subterranean realm beneath a wintry wilderness of the far north.

  • title: Savage Red Sonja: Queen of the Frozen Wastes (2006)
  • publisher: Dynamite
  • cover artist: Homs
  • writers: Frank Cho & Doug Murray
  • artist: Homs
  • issue: #3 of 4
  • release date: October, 2006
  • cover: C variant
  • commentary: The Homs covers to Queen of the Frozen Wastes were released as C variants. Frank Cho, who also is credited with the writing, drew the A covers. The B variants were drawn by Mark Texeira (#1) and Stjepan Sejic (#2 through #4). All three sets of covers are terrifically different in style, though they cover the same narrative, which, of course, is the best outcome for variant covers.
