  • commentary: This Parrillo cover to issue 29 of the Queen Sonja series calls to mind the balrog of The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien. Encountered in the depths of Moria by Frodo Baggins and the fellowship of the ring, the balrog was a servant of Morgoth, a creature of shadow and flame, a demon of the ancient world.

14

  • title: Red Sonja: Revenge of the Gods (2011)
  • publisher: Dynamite
  • cover artist: Lucio Parrillo
  • writer: Luke Lieberman
  • artist: Daniel Sampere
  • issue: #4 of 5
  • cover: A cover
  • release date: June, 2011
  • commentary: There were other Red Sonja covers by Lucio Parrillo, which could have been included in this gallery of demons. This instance from Revenge of the Gods is the last one we include. The demon is of the horned and horrid type. Its barbed tail lashes about wickedly, forcing Red Sonja to leap into the air to avoid its lacerations. The demon's eyes glow with an unearthly green light. Curiously, Red Sonja, a warrior who eschewed make-up of all kinds, is portrayed with eye-shadow of a matching shade of green.

The three covers from Swords of Sorrow: Red Sonja & Jungle Girl are featured in the following galleries
    • Companions: #9
    • Demons: #15
    • Anacleto: #9

  • artist: Carlos E. Gomez
  • issue: #00 of 25
  • cover: A cover
  • release date: December, 2016
  • commentary: In the introductory issue #0 to the Amy Chu interpretation of Red Sonja, our heroine heads to a New York City threatened by demons. Interestingly, artist Nick Bradshaw has placed a purple dinosaur as Red Sonja's stepping off point to this new adventure. This dinosaur bears a striking resemblance to several covers in the dinosaur cover gallery.

We have featured covers by Nick Bradshaw in galleries with various themes, including
    • Demons: #16
    • 2006: #9
    • 2016 & 2017: #9

  • writer: Amy Chu
  • artist: Carlos E. Gomez
  • issue: #09 of 25
  • cover: B variant
  • release date: September, 2017
  • commentary: Demonic possession can render ordinary folks into vessels of demonic savagery. Possession need not be accompanied by physical deformity but the growth of demonic features in those possessed is certainly not without precedent. In this cover by Charles Paul Wilson, various bankers and businessmen of the modern world, servants of the demons of avarice, exhibit physical traits of their vice, which ordinary is hidden from view.
