A Prayer for Irrelevance O Lord, let me become irrelevant, for in no longer having any bearing on the outcome of worldly events, my chance at transcending the world improves. O Lord, let me embrace as brothers the inconsequential, that in their midst I may find the courage to voice a proclamation: Let me be done with all these things that mean nothing! Let me abandon the perspective in which productivity is considered a virtue. Let me lie inutile within the churning world and let me stare uncomprehendingly as I am dismissed out-of-hand by those who have no time for the ineffectual. O Lord, grant this prayer for the already superfluous to ascend to an enlightened state of superfluity instead of just the rather mundane and corporeal uselessness I now feel. |
