Review:   A review of Haino's April 2013 performances in New York is in the New York Times, here.

May 4, 2013
Radio Play:   On Haino's 61st birthday yesterday, the Japanese Broadcasting Corporation NHK broadcasted Haino's track "Umaku-Dekinai" from his 1st album "Watashidake" on the Punk & New Wave special program on NHK-FM (http://www9.nhk.or.jp/zanmai/program/130503.html). This was first broadcast of Haino in 40 years on NHK since they banned Haino after his appearance on its TV program w/Magical Power Mako in February 1973. Reportedly, after Haino's appearance on the live broadcasting TV show "Hiru no Present (Gift of lunchtime)"on NHK with Magical Power Mako in 1973, the producer of the program was demoted by complaints flooding in from the viewers.

Many retailers also listed a "Jo Ha Kyu" release on the US label Important Records with a release date of February 26, 2013. Important records has not released this album. To date, only the Japanese release is available. At this point it is unclear if the Important Records release is a US version of the same material, or something different or nothing at all.

Regardless, a recording of the "album release concert" in Tokyo on February 23, 2013, which includes Haino is available from the Jo Ha Kyu website.

Book Release:   Since 1995, this site, "An Unofficial Keiji Haino Website", has been maintained by the staff of the Poison Pie Publishing House at www.poisonpie.com. In addition to more than a passing interest in the music of Keiji Haino, the site maintenance man, David J. Keffer, maintains an active interest in the broader world of non-idiomatic improvisation including teaching a course titled The Golden Age of Non-Idiomatic Improvisation at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

This interest has led David Keffer to write a "novel of non-idiomatic improvisation" published through the Poison Pie Publishing House. The novel is titled "A Sutra of Reverse Possession: a novel of non-idiomatic improvisation". Folks who appreciate the philosophy underlying non-idiomatic improvisation may find this novel rewarding.

A flyer describing the novel is available here. An excerpt from the novel can be read at amazon.com. In the U.S. the book can be purchased in either paperback or ebook format from amazon.com. In other parts of the world, the book is also available through amazon's international partners, including the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Japan.

Mr. Takeshi Goda, who has provided virtually all of the recent photographs in the "visuals section" of the Haino site, has written a nice review of the Poison Pie Publishing House on his (Japanese-language) blog.

Reviews of the novel can be left at goodreads.com.
