The Seven Wondrously Replicating Elemental Coins: The Shadow Mephit's Coin

The Seven Wondrously Replicating Elemental Coins: The Shadow Mephit's Coin
A Fantasy Role-Playing Module
created by David J. Keffer
from the Poison Pie Publishing House

Description: The Shadow Mephit's Coin is an extension to the The Seven Wondrously Replicating Elemental Coins module, created by David J. Keffer and previously published by the Poison Pie Publishing House in February, 2014. The original module was motivated by the acquisition of a set of gorgeous fantasy role-playing coins minted by Osborne Coinage and funded in December, 2013 through Kickstarter. The original module provides an adventure in the form of seven dungeon delves through which the party can acquire the coins. The seven coins represent the elements of time, magic, air, earth, water, fire and smoke, with denominations respectively of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 500. The delve associated with each coin contains aspects of the element and the images that are minted on the coin.

A second Kickstarter campaign from the Rare Elements team was successfully funded in May, 2014. This campaign focused on a set of 10 (equally excellent) coins corresponding to alignments. However, this second campaign also funded the minting of an eighth elemental coin, representing the shadow element with a denomination of 1000.

This document, The Shadow Mephit's Coin, provides an additional adventure, which allows a party that has already completed The Seven Wondrously Replicating Elemental Coins the opportunity to pick up the eighth elemental coin as well.

The module is nominally targeted for 4-6 players of levels 9-11, but is written in such a way that adjusting the difficulty to account for a different number of players or levels is relatively straightforward. The monster statistics are provided in the format of Fourth Edition Dungeons & Dragons, but again experienced DMs can port the module to another gaming system with relative ease. The Shadow Mephit's Coin is written in the Planescape Campaign Setting. The Shadow Mephit's Coin provides a connection between The Seven Wondrously Replicating Elemental Coins module, in which the party could acquire the elemental coins, and a forthcoming module from the Poison Pie Publishing House, Numismatists of the Great Wheel, in which the party can acquire the alignment coins.

Two versions of the pdf file exist. The deluxe version contains cover art of the shadow mephit by Kerry Bodenbender, which was the design for the coin and is lifted directly from the Kickstarter campaign site. The standard version contains a high-resolution scan of the coin, as with the other modules.

If the module and/or the coins pictured therein look interesting to you, a set of coins can be purchased at the Rare Elements website.
