Exploratory Illustrations for Hebeloma's Swamp Fantasy Overture
We have posted a page featuring artwork from Ms. Julia K. Keffer of Phoenix, Arizona. These works are exploratory illustrations for the musical score, Hebeloma's Swamp Fantasy Overture, which is being serially published on a daily basis in 2021 here on the blog of the Poison Pie Publishing House. Hebeloma's Swamp Fantasy Overture recounts the adventure of Periboea, one of the maidens offered to the minotaur by King Minos, immediately after she escaped from the labyrinth.

The staff of the Poison Pie Publishing House expects that some realization of these illustrations will eventually appear as chapter headings on both the electronic and paper editions of Hebeloma's Swamp Fantasy Overture, once the writing and the complementary artwork is complete.

The Minotaur
Today we feature an artwork from the street artist, Ms. Julia K. Keffer of Phoenix, Arizona. The Minotaur has some relevance to several works published by the Poison Pie Publishing House in recent years. The musical score, Hebeloma's Swamp Fantasy Overture, serially published on a daily basis in 2021, follows Periboea, one of the maidens offered to the minotaur, after she escapes from the labyrinth. The existential threat of the Minotaur is also a central theme in the horoscopes presented in The Oracle of Hebeloma. Finally, several of the sacrificial victims of the Minotaur are described in the novel, Piecemeal: Proceedings of the International Congress on Exploratory Meta-Living, serially published on the blog of the Poison Pie Publishing House on a daily basis in 2018. The gallery is here.

Gallery of Artist, Kay Balloonawala
We have added a gallery featuring the work of balloon artist, Kay Balloonawala. She is currently engaged in a project to explore chemistry, biochemistry and materials science by rendering compounds and materials from balloons. At time of posting, the first few works are shown. More are planned. The staff of the PPPH contributed to the collaboration only by adding visualizations of the compounds based on calculations of the atomic structure. The gallery is here.

The Tetralogy is Complete

Today, with the inauguration of Joe Biden as President of the United States of America, the writing of the tetralogy, How I Survived the Presidency of Douchebag J. Troglodyte: A Daily Account has been completed. 1,481 daily passages were written beginning on January 1, 2017 and ending today, January 20, 2021. The tetralogy produced four books corresponding to the writings completed in years 2017, 2018 2019 and 2020, respectively. An epilogue, in the form of a reflective essay, occupied the first twenty days of 2021. All content is available via free, anonymous access. This work was generated via a non-idiomatic, improvisational creative process. It also demonstrates the writing-as-listening process. For more information, see the four brief introductory notes to the tetralogy.

We survived!

2020: The Year in Review at the Poison Pie Publishing House
In the year 2020, the staff of the Poison Pie Publishing House produced exactly one book: Shaharazad and the 10,001 Diluvian Knights, a post-existential apocalyptic horror generated through a non-idiomatic improvisational creative process.

Shaharazad and the 10,001 Diluvian Knights was recorded in real time. It was serially published on a daily basis in 2020, resulting in a novel composed of 366 passages each nominally two hundred words in length. The full text of the novel remains online via free, anonymous access. A one-page flyer describing the work is online here. An abstract visualization of the novel is the latest addition to the PPPH null_sets gallery.

Shaharazad and the 10,001 Diluvian Knights is the fourth and final book of the tetralogy: How I Survived the Presidency of Douchebag J. Troglodyte: A Daily Account, which is comprised of one page written each day from January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2020. Four brief explanatory notes as well as links to the full text are available on the tetralogy page.

Because the tetralogy was intended to map onto the term of the current president of the United States of America, whose term does not officially end until January 20, 2021, a brief epilogue to the tetralogy is forthcoming, to be published in daily installments for the next twenty days.

In 2020, the third book in the tetralogy, A Practicum on Divination via Cleromancy, written in 2019 and available digitally, was also produced in two additional forms. First, visitors to the site can access the contents as random daily horoscopes via The Oracle of Hebeloma. Second, a limited number of physical cleromantic kits were produced.

In 2020, the staff of the Poison Pie Publishing House continued to sporadically produce music reviews. The International Journal of Exploratory Meta-Living published two issues: an interview with French saxophonist, vocalist and composer, Alexandra Grimal, titled, The Efficient Thought-Opener of Joy: An Interview with Alexandra Grimal, and A Materials Perspective on Waterphone Acoustics.

In an effort to help readers pass the covid-19 quarantine at home in a pleasant and safe way, the PPPH released in 2020 the full text of a couple of novels, previously unavailable in digital format, for free and anonymous access. Currently the full list of titles freely available from the PPPH includes the following novels.

  • The Implacable Absence: A Non-Idiomatic Improvisational Duet (2014) full text (flyer)
  • The Portable Library of Hong Samud: a novel that grew as a vine grows, guided by an innate, phototactic sensitivity (2015) full text (flyer)
  • The Ornithological Collection of Uwetsiageyv: A Flight of Fancy in Two Hundred and One Parts (2016) full text (flyer)
  • Wouldn't the Wood Weird, a post-existential romantic fantasy, or Impractical Prayers from the Spindle of the Void (2016) full text (flyer)
  • 2017: The Year of the Every-Day Magician, A Second-Hand Account of the Rise and Fall of the Renegades of the American Muslim Registry (2017) full text (flyer)
  • Piecemeal: Proceedings of the International Congress on Exploratory Meta-Living (2018) full text (flyer)
  • A Practicum on Divination via Cleromancy (2019) full text (flyer)
  • Shaharazad and the 10,001 Diluvian Knights (2020) full text (flyer)

There are also several illustrated books for readers of all ages freely available from the Poison Pie Publishing House. Links to a few of these books are provided below.

The staff of the Poison Pie Publishing House is no longer setting annual goals. However, the daily blog will continue, with the intention of generating a novel of non-idiomatic improvisation. This novel will take the form of a musical score and is titled, Hebeloma's Swamp Fantasy Overture (2021).

To our readers, we, the staff of the Poison Pie Publishing House, thank you for your patronage and support and we look forward to another mutually creative and unpredictable year.
